Human Sentences

Another great idea from Vanessa Ritter. I tweeked it a little and merged it with the paper plate ideas from Rebecca Thomason. Write one word on each paper plate. Pass out the plates and have students arrange themselves to make a sentence. We are just learning about sentences so I programed my plates with the proper capitalization and punctuation, but you could have them to show what should be capitalized by holding capital letters high for a "tall" capital letter. Then you act out the punctuation as well. You have the last person in the sentence line punch for a period, hold up a bent arm with a fist under it for an exclamation mark, and curve one arm over their head and the other arm at their belly in a fist for the question mark. This teaches word order and so much more about sentences. One thing that I didn't do that I will for sure do next time is write the words on both sides of the plates. This way the holder can read it and so can the rest of the class. This activity was so fun!
