Meet the Class

This is a center idea that I have posted before, but I put my spin on it. I actually combined it with a center another teacher shared with me. I called this center "Meet the Class." It was a favorite last week! You take a picture of each student in your class and yourself. You write everyone's first name on the back of their picture highlighting the capital letter at the beginning. To do the center, the students will lay out all the pictures facing up where the names are not visible. They will then take turns pulling a letter (I used letters from Lakeshore that are a lot like Magnetic letters for the fridge) from the bag. They will tell everyone in the group what letter they got and then find everyone's picture whose name begins with that letter. They will pile those up and put the letter on top of them. Play will continue like this until every picture has a letter on top. I always like to have a center product so that I know the students did what they were suppose to do at the center and the parents can see what they did. I made this page using the same pictures from the center and the final job is to write everyone's name beside their picture. When I check this I am looking for that capital letter.
