Take me out to the ballgame........

For 11 years, I have used the same basic behavior management system. Library pockets with colored sticks. It has always worked until this year!!!

For some reason, I have to change up my system every 6-8 weeks. This class needs change. I have gone through red-green-yellow-blue sticks, sticker charts, treasure chest, and now they need something new.

I am excited about my new idea. I have a baseball theme for spring. I have set up a bulletin board with baseball diamonds that they colored. Then I printed baseball players from http://www.makinglearningfun.com/ on different colored paper.

Basically they get strikes for breaking a rule- 3 strikes no recess. I lay a laminated "Stike" on their desk. Since it is laminated, I write their initials and the rule they broke on the strike. That way I do not have to try to remember that rule they broke at the end of the day. 3 strikes your out!!!!

They earn a homerun for good behavior during the day. At the end of the day they get a player for their team, and after they fill up their team, they earn extra playtime with balls, frisbee, jumprope, while others are busy coloring. I staple a player to their baseball diamond to represent their homerun. After their team is filled, and they earn a playtime, I willl remove the team, post a baseball (white sticker) and start all over.

Check out these photos of my bulletin board. And I am happy to report that on day 1 I had 10/15 earn a homerun and by day 5, 14/15 earned a homerun. One poor person still has an empty baseball diamond I think that it will actually work..... for about 6 weeks.

FYI http://www.makinglearningfun.com/ has great resources for early childhood groups. Lots of printables for management and centers.
