Old Lady Sequence Activity

This was an activity that someone did in one of my college classes that I just love. You read the book "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly." After reading the story, you give the students the materials to create their old lady (head, legs, arms). I then have them bring the pieces to me and I staple the body parts to the zip lock bag. I then give them the animals that the old lady eats. They color and cut them out. After everyone has all of their pieces ready, we read the story again and number the animals in the order that she eats them, e.g. fly is 1, etc. This helps them to re-tell the story at home. We then read the story several more times using the story props they have made. I encourage them to use the old lady to re-tell the story to someone at home. This is always a favorite of mine and my students alike. You can find printables for the old lady and the animals all over the net. I used the old lady that was drawn by the girl in my college class, but I found the animals at the site listed below.

You can find many others to use with a simple google search if this one doesn't work for you. Remember, never swallow a horse!
