pilgrams in March ???

On the Friday before Spring Break we have our annual Rainbow Day in 1st grade. We have the kids dress in solid shirts representing the colors of the rainbow, make a graph of the colors, make rainbow snacks, a usually watch Magic Schoolbus Rainbow episode.

This year I wanted to have an ongoing rainbow project leading up to the "big day"

I found this cute idea to make a handprint rainbow. The suggestion was to have the kids write an act of kindness on each hand.

Since reading is my focus this year, I decided to have the kids make a "Reading Rainbow". Each day at the end of reading each child chose a new word for the day to put on their handprint. Each day we used a different color, and by the end of the week we had a beautiful rainbow.

I let the helper choose the color of the day sooooo.... the colors do not represent "ROYGBIV" but pretty nonetheless!

I added lepricons or "pilgrams" as one student said. Can you believe he asked "where did you get those pilgrams?". I did teach a Thanksgiving unit and the people were not wearing green. Oh well atleast they remembered the word! I wonder who will pop up at Easter!
