Pizza Party

I have promised my class a pizza party if they all recieve their A.R. points for this 9 weeks. They kept coming up to me and asking me, do I have my points yet. I had just told them the day before. They have folders where we record their testing, but the decimal system is hard from them to understand. I wanted a way to display who had earned their points and who still needed to test. I didn't want to do the boring old check chart. I ran across a pizza that a teacher made from bulletin board paper and she used it for behavior points. I loved it! So, here is our pizza. Each student made a topping for the pizza. When they have earned their points for the 9 weeks, their topping is moved to the pizza. When everyone's topping is moved to the pizza, the class will know that we have met our goal. They love to hear when someone's pepperoni or sausage gets moved to the pizza. We talked about how if someone isn't on the pizza yet we shouldn't get mad at them but those of us who are on the pizza should be their reading buddy and read with them so that they can get on the pizza too. I have been amazed at how the pizza has motivated them. I have had a grandmother of one of my students that saw our pizza display and wants to buy the pizza for us. Yay! Now I will not be spending it out of pocket, even better. You gotta love those visual displays!
