Fractions w/ Pizzas

I came to the lesson in Saxon Math that introduces fourths and I did this instead. This came from the book Independent Practice Math by Mailbox. It has a reproducible that has four of each topping. You give each child the toppings and three paper plates. They then make their 3 pizzas to their liking and write down what fraction of each pizza has which toppings. I of course did a review of halfs and thirds first and helped them all program their pizza 1, 2, and 3 into the correct number of pieces. I would suggest you making a worksheet for them to record their pizza fractions on. I did not. I gave them blank paper and they had a little bit of trouble getting started. Next year, I plan to make a page that looks like a restaurant ticket for them to record the fractions on. I forgot to take pics of the pizzas and luckily one of the students had forgotten to take his home. This student decided to put the same toppings on his pizza so his fractions were pretty easy, but you get the idea.
