This year my class has crayon issues. Long story short, I have a large bucket of discard crayons, that I just can't throw away. We use them to replace crayons that "mysteriously dissapear", rather than getting a brand new box. I have even bought an electric crayon sharpener. LOVE IT!!!!
So back to the craft.
*You peel the paper off of old crayons, and break them into small pieces.
*Fill a heart shaped baking mold with the crayons, make sure you mix up crazy colors.
*place the mold on a cookie sheet, just in case the wax drips
FYI Jill found the molds at Target for $10 just last night
*bake at 250 for 10-15 minutes
*once cool, remove the hearts and smooth any rough edges by rubbing on a piece of scrap paper
Then you can attach the crayon to a cut out circle or heart and write a message
"You Color World" " Valentine, you make my HEART melt"
Happy Valentines Day 2009

I made these for my students and they LOVED them! Here is a tip or two for anyone who decides to make them. You will need a silicone pan or it will be hard to get the crayons out. Another tip is to use Roseart crayons. They are the easiest to peel and peeling was the hardest part of this project. My students were amazed that the heart crayons really worked. I couldn't get them to understand that they were made from their old, broken crayons. Now I want to do shamrock crayons for St. Pats.
